The announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister and BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The announcement was made during the launch of the BN machinery at the BN Command Centre for the Sungai Besar by-election in Pasir Panjang, Sungai Besar this evening. Zahid said that Budiman, a Sungai Besar local boy who is also the Selangor BN state assemblymen secretary, had received the endorsement of Prime Minister and BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak as the candidate. "He fullfils the criteria as an excellent candidate and deserves
support from the entire BN family. "He is hardworking, energetic and close to the grassroots. We hope he will also get the support from the Chinese and Indian communities. "He will continue the good work done by Datuk Noriah Kasnon (the incumbent Sungai Besar MP), " said Ahmad Zahid. Budiman, who holds a Masters Degree in Communications from Universiti Putra Malaysia, is also the leader of Sekretariat Orang Muda Selangor (Serang), a group of young people from Selangor who serve as a check and balance organisation for the administration of the state of Selangor.
Zahid later called upon the BN ranks to unite and support the candidate, noting that there is an abundance of talent available. Selangor BN has previously submitted seven names for consideration as the coalition’s candidate, including a woman. The Sungai Besar parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death Noriah in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak on May 5. Also killed in the crash were the Member of Parliament for Kuala Kangsar Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, Noriah’s husband, Asmuni Abdullah and three others including the pilot. Subsequently, the Election Commission announced that the by-elections for the parliamentary constituencies of Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar would be held simultaneously on June 18 while nomination day would be on June 5.
