Speaking at a 'buka puasa' event here, Zahid said all citizens, especially politicians, are responsible for safeguarding the religious harmony the nation enjoys. "Throughout the campaign period, I have been told that several quarters tried to play up senstive issues by erecting billboards that contain messages that would lead to racial and religious tension. "I have personally told the Barisan Nasional machinery especially Umno members not to resort to such conduct (touching on sensitive issues), and they have taken heed of the order. "We want other parties to also abide by the election ethics. We must all follow the do's and dont's stipulated in the Election Commission Act," he said at Masjid Nurul Falah, Sungai Leman. To date, Zahid said, police have received a total of nine police reports on provocative campaign materials.
At the event, Zahid also announced that the government had approved an allocation of RM150,000 for upgrading works of the mosque. Also present were Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, and Kuala Selangor MP Datuk Irmohizam Ibrahim.
